When I think of French Manicure nails, I think of the early 2000’s and the Jersey Shore era. You know, the fond, iconic memories that you don’t want to repeat. And the huge resurgence of French Manicures in the past year has me tempted, but also scared at the same time. I know fashion is cyclical, but dare I go back to my misguided youth with a fresh French Manicure full set? The answer is YES. Yes, I will absolutely indulge. Sometimes you have to rewind or reset in life to remember the essence of who you are. And back then I was a free-spirited, experimental, Jenny from the block loving, quintessential East Coast chick. Who am I to deny my roots? Fact is French Manicures used to make me feel good as hell.
Sometimes I get caught up in the doldrums of adult life and find myself wishing I was a kid again. I lost my spunk along the way, and sometimes sit at work thinking how I can find it. And although the idea of fewer bills and responsibilities makes returning to childhood appealing, I don’t want to go back. But I do want to get back to my childlike attitude and sense of style. It was unique, trendy and indicative of the times, but most importantly it was fun. I’m missing fun in my personal style right now, and I remember the days when getting my nails done were exciting. Nowadays I routinely get my simple neutral color manicure, and return in two weeks to do it all again. Just a few years ago, getting a fresh French Manicure set for the weekend was a highlight. I need that energy back.
BUT LET’S MAKE IT FASHION
Although I’m all for revisiting a trend from my youth, it’s still 2020 and I need to look the part. Thank the Heavens for celebrity nail artists like Chaun P (@chaunlegend) and his modern twist on the classic French Manicure. His take on French Nails has included an almost signature deep arch, ombre tips, and pops of prints and more. The innovative designs take a possibly tacky blast from the past to newer, cutting-edge levels. Chaun P has reinvigorated French Manicures on Kylie Jenner and Khloe Kardashian, and has also done the nails of Cardi B, Kendall Jenner, Normani, Lori Harvey, Monica, and more. The LA based manicurist was nominated for Nail Artist of the Year at the 2019 American Influencer Awards, and has immense talent that cannot be denied.
A French Manicure almost seems necessary now on my next trip to the nail salon. It’s an easy way to get back to the essence of me and what makes me happy. And now that there’s a way to modernize a past joy, why not partake? Especially when we were the ones to make it cool back in the days in the first place. Tuh! Sometimes it’s truly the little things that matter in life, and we shouldn’t overlook them. If my regular manicure isn’t making me happy, then I’m going to switch it up. And I’m going to take this same approach in other areas of my life as well. I’m determined to get my spunk back.
