HOW TO TREAT YOURSELF WITH AN AT-HOME FACIAL

Woman looking in a mirror applying a face mask while giving herself a facial at home.

I used to be the person that would plan my schedule around every social invitation, but now my home is where the party is.  Although I meant this figuratively, at times I do literally have a spa party by myself, complete with giving myself an at-home facial. I do this to fill the void of not going out, and also skip the unwanted social interactions.  This is because I fell more in love with myself, and found that solitude is a necessary pleasure.  One that I had taken for granted for quite some time.  Spending most of your time with others limits the time you have for self-care and self-reflection, which should be priority. More so, you deserve the peace and joy that comes with spending a night at home and treating yourself. So take a social break, and learn how to give yourself an at-home facial you deserve.

I started scheduling weekly personal days.  And not in the PTO sense.  In the sense where I take one day out of the week and make sure I spend time with myself.  I give myself the time to think about why I’m glad or sad, reflect on areas that need improvement, and simply do something that makes me happy.  My personal self-care days also consist of giving myself an at-home facial while I dive into these thoughts. Treating yourself is a major key after all. And I feel more fulfilled because of it. So I urge you to take a break from social obligations, and prioritize yourself into your schedule. And learn how to give yourself the best at-home facial in these 9 steps. You deserve it.

HOW TO GIVE YOURSELF AN AT-HOME FACIAL

1. CLEANSE YOUR SKIN

To prep for an at-home facial, begin by cleansing your skin. It’s important that makeup, oil, or other grime is removed from your skin to get the most out of your facial. Starting with a fresh and clean skin canvas is essential. And a water based cleanser will efficiently do the job, in lieu of double cleansing, to prepare your skin.

2. STEAM YOUR FACE

On top of adding to the spa-like ambience of your at-home facial, steaming your skin has numerous benefits. Using a facial steamer at home opens your pores, and loosens up any dirt and bacteria in them. Steaming your face also hydrates your skin, and increases the circulation so that you’re left glowing and primed for the rest of your at-home facial.

3. EXFOLIATE YOUR SKIN WITH A FACIAL SCRUB

Exfoliating your skin is an important step in an at-home facial. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and any excess oils, as well as helps smooth your skin’s texture. Facial scrubs also clears your pores which will help you get the most out of the following steps of your DIY facial.

4. APPLY AN AT-HOME CHEMICAL FACE PEEL

At-home chemical face peels takes exfoliation a step further by unclogging your pores, and removing bacteria and dead skin cells. Face peels also have immense anti-aging and complexion benefits as they target fine lines, and dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Face peels work at the top layer of your skin to reveal a radiant and even complexion.

5. FACE MASK

No at-home facial is complete without an amazing face mask. Face masks can target many different skincare concerns, and come in many different forms. But after strenuously prepping and exfoliating your skin in this facial routine, a hydrating face mask is the next step. A moisturizing face mask is going to deliver the nourishing ingredients that your skin needs.

6. FACE SERUM

At its core a face serum doubly treats and protects your skin, making it a vital part of an at-home facial. Face serums penetrate deeply and quickly into your skin to solve your skincare needs. They protect your skin from outside damages, soothe your skin, and work to visually approve your face’s appearance.

7. FACE OIL

Face Oils moisturize your skin, and add a touch of luxury to an at-home facial. They hydrate and nourish your skin, and work for all skin types. Your face is left with a healthy and beautiful glow. Face oils are designed to deeply moisturize your skin, and seal in that moisture.

8. MASSAGE YOUR SKIN WITH A FACE ROLLER

What would an at-home facial be without a soothing face massage? Face rollers have amazing benefits for your skin. Not only do they relax your face, but they help to distribute your skincare products deeper into your skin. Face rollers can also help to get rid of puffiness, dark circles, and much more.

9. MOISTURIZER

The key to healthy, happy skin is moisture. So a face moisturizer culminates an at-home facial. Face moisturizers keep your skin clear, smooth, and glowing. And face moisturizers also provide protection for your skin to maintain its health. The value of a face moisturizer is unmatched.

Taking time to stop and smell the roses had truly been what I was missing for a while.  Social obligations and overall responsibilities had been causing me to miss the benefits of staying at home and hanging out with myself. Of course I’ll still socialize and handle my duties, but I also have me nights now.  And I love spending those nights treating myself, and giving myself an at-home facial. As a result I’m appreciating, learning, and falling more in love with myself because of it. And you deserve that too. So take a break, learn how to give yourself an at-home facial, and simply relax.
